INSIDE LOUIS VUITTON'S SEE LV

|
Written By:

Welcome to the pleasure dome. As if dropped here in the shadow of the Museum of Contemporary Art by a futuristic alien art force, the sparkling tessellated box houses the exhibition: SEE LV. It is everything that Louis Vuitton stands for – well-edited, concise, fluid with impeccable craftsmanship and rich with ideas. SEE LV is the must see in Sydney right now for anyone who loves fashion. It is particularly poignant as it resonates with the urgency and a the work of Virgil Abloh, his silvery optimism and joy of creating clothes that were inspired by his own world and the archive of LV.

Before the opening of the exhibition Christine Vendredi-Auzanneau, Head of Patrimony for Louis Vuitton Global told 10 that on Virgil’s first day as designer he headed straight to the archive and how excited and immersed he became in the history. A Soft Trunk in white leather from Virgil’s first collection, inspired by ‘trunk conventions’ and on the design cusp between hard and soft is on display.

Nicolas Ghesquière, Kim Jones and Marc Jacobs are all represented through looks from their first and more recent shows as well. The 2017 Supreme collaboration is literally red hot. The groundbreaking Stephen Sprouse, Takashi Murakami and Yayoi Kusama collaborations are represented. As in all the exhibitions that Louis Vuitton is involved in – there is a juxtaposition of the past and present. The heritage and exchange of ideas that creates the present. This is their DNA.

The tiny bookstore or library is great – impossible to leave without a piece of Vuitton history. SEE LV or miss out.
