CELINE: READY-TO-WEAR SS23

Hedi Slimane is giving the girls what they want: a Celine-ified 2000s revival. Heading to Saint-Tropez, where Hedi has been living since his arrival at the House, the Saint-Tropez collection featured a classic noughties uniform: a skinny jean (Hedi’s signature) and a narrow shoulder, inspired by the rock music scene during this time. During this period, Slimane created stage wear for artists including Mick Jagger, Jack White, Daft Punk, Franz Ferdinand and The Libertines (whose 2004 ‘Music When The Lights Go Out’ single features as the collection anthem).

The Celine girls came strutting in super skinny low rise denim jeans and skirts, belted short shorts, low buttoned shirts, slim fitting leather jackets and vests, new bucked up biker boots, bikinis and shimmering mini dresses. They came swaggering with the Celine Conti bag by their sides, a relaunch of the Cabas bag from Hedi’s London era, made from a supple leather and carried on the forearm. The French Riviera rock chick renaissance is upon us. Bow down.
