Bassike is making more meaningful moves, announcing today that its organic cotton jersey product line is certified carbon neutral by Climate Active. The news confirms that the greenhouse gas emissions that occur with the sourcing of raw material production, manufacturing and distribution have been measured, reduced and offset in their entirety.At bassike we have a commitment to continuous improvement – always reviewing and revising our processes to ensure we are doing things the best way possible,” says Mary Lou Ryan, Bassike Co-Founder and Director of Sustainability and Supply Chain. “Achieving carbon neutrality for our organic cotton jersey collection involved measuring and reducing carbon emissions at every step of the supply chain, before neutralising any remaining carbon with capturing and offsetting projects. We now understand the environmental impact of our industry and while I think the current focus on people and planet is the first step, it will take collaboration across the entire industry from the sourcing of raw materials, knitting mills, garments makers, brands, designers and government to see remarkable change on a global scale.”

To mark this moment, the brand has dropped a campaign titled #MoreThanBassike, featuring Lara Worthington in the More Than bassike t-shirt and more of the brands sustainable pieces. “As a designer I am always very inspired by the tactile nature of fabrications, so this is often a starting point for our collections,” Deborah Sams, Co-Founder and Creative director, tells us. “The process of sourcing, learning about and working with sustainable fabrications has been an inspiration in itself – it keeps you searching for the next innovation and creatively challenges myself and the team. A perfect example is our new ribbed jersey fabrication that we developed exclusively with our knitting mill in Melbourne – it has the beautiful shape and texture of knitwear, but is made from 100% organic cotton and can be washed and worn the same as your favourite bassike tshirt.” As is the way with our motto here at 10: look good, do good.
