TEN QUESTIONS WITH 2CHARM
We have been charmed by 2charm. The Melbourne-based electronic duo are our favourite discovery this year, with their ultimate party starter debut single boyfriend making its way into our top ten songs of the year (stay tuned). Working with Australia's edm sweetheart Ninajirachi on production, their second single paris (to get you out of my head) has solidified them as the ones to watch. We spoke to 2charm about music, Australia and dream collabs:
When we say that we're obsessed with boyfriend, we literally listen to it on repeat every day. Give us the lowdown on 2charm. Who are you? Where did you come from? How did you meet?
We love that, thank you. We’re 2charm, an indie techno sleaze g00ner pop duo. We came from the depths, currently residing in Melbourne. We met on a discord server for big screen gooners at the start of this year.
Why was boyfriend the perfect way to introduce yourselves to the world?
I think because it’s a perfect song.
Agreed. We also love paris (to get you out my head). You worked with Nina on this one - tell us about collaborating with her.
Thank you. Yes!! Making music with Nina is one of my favourite things in life. I’m being extremely serious and literal when I say it’s a magical process. The way we usually start a song is that Nina will sample another song we’ve made together, and that’s our entry point into new musical worlds. We’ve made quite a few songs together now including boyfriend :) omg and on 11/11 we made a new song sampling boyfriend and then went to the Addison Rae concert that night… life can be so awesome.
It feels like there’s a really exciting resurgence of this hyperpoppy edm world right now in Australia. Who influenced you sonically as you were growing up?
Yeah it’s a really awesome time for Australian music. Some musical obsessions growing up were Britney Spears, Aqua, Rihanna, Robert Miles, DJ Sammy, Justin Bieber, Cut Copy, Robyn, The Postal Service. Kind of random but also makes perfect sense how we ended up in this sonic 2charmiverse.
This makes so much sense. Do you think being from Australia infuses itself into your sound at all? Are you inspired by being here?
Yeah I reckon it does, but I also don’t think 2charm necessarily sounds ‘Australian’ - whatever that means idk hehe. We are feeling inspired here for sure. A lot of the 2charm songs you’ll be hearing next have been inspired by experiences all over the place though. It’s global, darling.
Do you have a good creative community here? We see Mallrat is a big supporter.
Yes we do and it’s actually the best. A lot of 2charm collaborators and community are in Melbourne at the moment, including Mallrat. She’s the coolest.
Who would be your dream collaborator? Bucket list?
Current collaborators are Ninajirachi, Simon Lam and 1tbsp - so we’re already living the dream. I reckon 2charm x Danny L harle would rock, also adore Casey mq, sega bodega, pinkpantheress, frost children. Oscar18 and grimoire’s work on fakemink is so hot.
Best moment in 2025 so far?
The weekend we released our first single boyfriend. We played our debut live show supporting Mallrat in the round at the Tivoli in Brisbane then came home to Melbourne and had a really fun iconic night with friends. The other best moment was the Addison Rae concert at The Forum.
Amen to Addison Rae. What’s something important to you guys aside from music? Something inspiring you or something you’d like to use your growing platform for?
Friends and community. We have an instagram based magazine called g00ner pop mag. A new volume comes out at 4:20 every Sunday afternoon and it’s all about spotlighting the community who inspires us.
What’s next?
Ugh I can’t wait to tell you.
