Art can be both beautiful and occasionally baffling. But for filmmaker Alice Diop, it can also be a source of consolation. For its third year partnering with Art Basel Paris, Miu Miu invited the French director to make her exhibition debut with Geste de Consolation, a multi-faceted project exploring how Black women have been represented throughout art history and how that art continues to inform the present.

Taking over the Palais d’Hiver from October 21 to 25, the exhibition features film, photography, sculpture, poetry, dance and live music across four interconnected spaces. Standouts include a library of 296 books from Diop’s personal collection and a monumental bronze sculpture by Simone Leigh.
