SOFIA COPPOLA TEASES CHANEL’S MÉTIERS D’ART SHOW

Tonight, Chanel will present its 2023/24 Métiers d’art collection in the heart of one of England’s greatest music cities, Manchester. To mark the momentous moment, creative director Virginie Viard commissioned director and Chanel ambassador Sofia Coppola to make a groovy collage-style short film whose “vibrant rhythm reflects the creative energy of the city” according to a release.

Poignant historic photos of the House’s indomitable founder Madame Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel – an eternal source of inspiration for the couturière – dance amidst snapshots of the cutting edge influence of Manchester on music, literature, architecture and sport that is so dear to it. As if it were fed through a retro filter, its gritty cities streets, gigs and raves – along with vintage high fashion imagery – flash from frame to frame.

Set to the technological sound of ‘Blue Monday’ – the legendary track by New Order that fast became the best-selling 12-inch single of all time – you’ll catch ephemeral glimpses of effervescent images specially taken by British photographer Jamie Hawkesworth that show a group of people chosen through an “open” casting process embodying the first silhouettes of the collection.

The full film of the show will be unveiled on Friday 8, December, at 8pm time via chanel.com.
