FENDI: SS23
F is for fun, fresh, fluorescent, Fendi. This season we’re strutting in the star of Kim Jones’ SS23 show: the super duper Y2K rubber platform heels stamped with the inverted Fendi First F. The Fendi girls slinked by in neon green sleek satin with those slouchy Baguette pockets we saw last week in New York, mesh tank tops embroidered with flowers and holiday mode workwear in dove grey tailored light shirts and jackets. The primary colours this season were sherbet green, a cornflower blue and a juicy pink that came through on the new Fendi First Date bag, complete with first date necessity must - a secret interior mirror. The F sliced bags in half to unveil their mechanisms, cutting through the body of the bag to create a handle. Ruthless.
Jones had gone deep into the archives looking at Karl Lagerfeld’s work at the house from 1996 to 2002, focusing on the turn of the millennium: “It’s about continuity,” said Jones. “I am interested in looking at things that Karl has done, and seeing how we can develop them – both visually and technically.” The floral print was picked from the archive, and a logo first introduced in 2000 has been reworked by Jones into a mirrored FENDI printed logo. “What is particularly interesting to me about Fendi is exploring the notion of functional utility alongside femininity – because the Fendi women are strong women with full, busy lives.” Fendi facts.
