TEN QUESTIONS WITH HEADSEND
Meet Australia's most exciting new band. We saw the Byron Bay-based trio - brothers (and professional surfers) Rasmus and Kyuss King who are joined by drummer Bon Soric - open for Tool, AC/DC and Wunderhorse in 2025, and capture our attention with their fearless live show. The band have now released their debut EP, Angel Glands, and are already drawing comparisons to '90s Silverchair and Nirvana. With their intuitive, timeless sound, the EP gives us exactly what we want: HEADSEND's self-assured roaring rock n roll on tracks Stove and Chugg, while also featuring introspective, quieter moments on Die No and And Angel. Their latest single Do Do (above) feels like the pinnacle of HEADSEND's sound and style. We spoke to the boys about creating one of our favourite projects of 2026 so far:
We love your vibe and the music. Give us a quick Headsend lowdown. How did you meet and why did you guys start making music together? And why ‘Headsend’?
Ras and I (Kyuss) were jamming songs at home most days, but we needed a drummer. We searched around, but we were coming up blank until we got a phone call from our grandma saying there was a loud drummer next door. That’s how we found Bon. After the first jam, we kinda knew this felt right. Headsend - a projection of your mind.
Who were the mutual influences in terms of the music you all loved?
We love a lot of music between us... Brian Jonestown Massacre, Sleep, Dystopia, Gary Numan, PJ Harvey, Neutral Milk Hotel, Black Sabbath, etc., etc., etc...
We’re super excited about this EP - what was the inspiration behind it?
We were just going for a real, live, raw sound. It’s a lot of what we listen to, and it’s how we play and what we like.
Did you make the music in Byron? How does being there influence your sound?
Byron doesn’t have any influence on our music - it’s just where we’re from.
You worked with Nick DiDia on the EP. What did he bring to the world of Headsend?
He was able to help capture our raw sound - to get a similar feeling to playing live, and that’s what we wanted.
We really love your visuals. What inspires you visually?
Being authentic to ourselves is what we try to portray in our videos and stage presence.
Is fashion important to you? How do you guys figure out your on-stage look?
We just wear our normal clothes.
Love that. Speaking of… you’re going on tour, and playing the Great Escape. What’s it been like rehearsing and bringing these songs to life in a live show element?
Playing live is our favourite thing. We’ve never been to the UK, so it’s going to be our first time playing overseas. We’re very excited. We jam a lot!
Is there a song you’re most proud of finishing on the EP?
Do Do is our latest single from our EP. This one feels good to release, and we’re looking forward to sharing the video clip we’ve shot with everyone. We’re stoked on it.
What’s something important to you guys that you’re passionate about, aside from music?
Bon loves lawn bowls, Kyuss and Ras love surfing.
What’s next?
We’re looking forward to getting our EP out and playing gigs overseas…
