PRADA: SS23
For SS23, Prada staged an act of reality. Miuccia Prada has been excited by “the idea of clothes shaped by humanity” and so a new Prada uniform under Mrs P and Raf Simons’ reign came forth: sturdy, strong, rigorous. It was Prada’s clever default position. Classic Prada coats were worn over super skinny pantsuits, sheer nightgown-like dresses flowed ghostlike and were slyly embroidered with the Triangle logo, and soft knitted jumpers were worn with matching knee length skirts. “Life and humanity crafts the clothes - not superficial embellishment, but traces of living, leaving marks,” Mrs Prada said in a statement. It felt appropriate, a smart way to dress that is finely tuned but not overly flamboyant as we navigate a time of great angst in the world. In times of uncertainty, no one in fashion understands politics like Miuccia Prada. She has offered us a collection that is thoughtful, precise but still beautiful. As Raf said in a statement: “…this one [collection] is filled with different views… different bodies of work, within a single body of work - shifting between disparate form languages.” It was, as the title of the collection stated, a Touch of Crude. This was Code Prada.
