LOEWE: SS26
This was a flawless debut for Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez at Loewe. The collection was exciting, paced with a sense of youthful luxury. They brought their keen sense of all-American sportswear to the party, coupled with the beautiful craftsmanship of a house that carries 180 years of expertise. The colours had all the vibrancy of Spain and the Spanish flag with inspiration also from the American painter Ellsworth Kelly. The layered looks from the caps to the loafers and opaque kitten heels, worn with colour socks, were grounded and had energy. Top to toe. This delivered all the blue sky optimism of hot days in Madrid.
Our favourites included the “jeans” made from tiny orange paillettes and the super slouchy coats. The towelling dresses nodded to Ibiza. Good textures, perfect volume. A new demi-logo too, cut in half but delivering so much more. Watching it all, Baz and his lead for Joan of Arc, Isla Johnston; Sarah Snook; Julia Nobis enjoying being on the other side; and one of our heroes, Pedro Almodovar. It was fun. All the designers who’ve debuted this season have been overawed by their ateliers, speaking of their respect for the house artisans - here, too, the song of the worker was immense.
