GIORGIO ARMANI: SS26
And so to Giorgio Armani, the closing moment of Milan Fashion Week. The show had been planned to coincide with the 50 year celebration of his work but following the death of Mr Armani earlier this month, it became a poignant tribute. Guests included Richard Gere who most famously wore an Armani wardrobe for American Gigolo, Lauren Hutton, Glenn Close and Cate Blanchett, all united in the sadness of his passing.
The location of the show and exhibition Giorgio Armani, Milano, per amore at the Pinocoteca di Brera Museum is only a block away from where Mr Armani’s lived and where the early shows were held. The courtyard was illuminated with a sea of lanterns and a pianist played as the models walked in pairs - an Armani signature.
The final collection designed by Mr Armani was a beautiful fluid tone-on-tone conversation - inspired by Milan and the island of Pantelleria where he holidayed every summer. The colours spanned softest greige through to Mediterranean blues, sparkling and light reflecting. The craftsmanship was impeccable as ever.
As the show closed the audience stood clapping and filtered up into the museum. We wandered through galleries of Renaissance paintings and archival pieces of Giorgio Armani spanning 50 years. Remarkably the dates became unimportant, as his legacy is timeless, which in fashion terms is quite incredible. 1993 could have been 2025. The exhibition is memorable and runs til early January. Touring the exhibition, Cate Blanchett told us: “The ripple effect of Mr Armani can be seen tonight, it’s so much more than a beautiful dress or a jacket - here every stitch counts".
