Fred is chasing golden hour. The Maison's new High Jewellery collection, titled Monsieur Fred Golden Light, presents the third instalment in the trilogy. The first chapter, Monsieur Fred Inner Light, celebrated the unique personality of Fred himself; the second, Monsieur Fred High Light, celebrated his love of light; and the third is an ode to the sun's journey across the French Riviera. "Fred would always say that the light of the sun was giving back to him in Monaco," Valerie Samuel, Artistic Director and granddaughter of Fred, told us in Paris where we got up close with the new collection.

The collection features five chapters: Moonlight Reflection, with tanzanites reflecting the deep, dark blue of the night; Promising Dawn, capturing the serenity of the sun rising over the sea with kaleidoscopic blue and green emeralds alongside diamonds and pearls; Crystalline Joy, celebrating the crystal-clear waters that Fred would dive into, expressed through tourmalines and diamonds; Blooming Senses, signifying the mimosa of the mornings, crafted with yellow sapphires; and the star of the show, Soleil d'Or Golden Light: the magnificent 101.57-carat Soleil d'Or yellow diamond, set among dazzling diamonds for the first time in Fred's history.

"We had a dream to set the treasure of the Maison—the yellow diamond—and so we mounted it on a radiant necklace," Valerie told 10. "Alongside it, we also created a brooch with an 11.25-carat yellow diamond to match... I think this piece is really special. He was Fred, the Sunshine Jeweller, so having this intense yellow diamond weighing over 100 carats makes it one of the most exceptional stones in the world."

Among transformable Australian opals, Colombian emeralds, tourmalines, tanzanites, sapphires and diamonds, the collection tells a story that captures Fred's journey from night to morning, tracing the calm, quiet breaking dawn that began his days in Monaco.
