What does the perfect day in a Chanel girl's world look like? It began at the Grand Palais, of course, where Matthieu Blazy showed his sophomore Haute Couture collection. Once upon a time, at 31 Rue Cambon, Blazy had been dreaming of Gabrielle Chanel's life as a fairy tale. "I found a small book in her library, Les Fées, Contes des Contes, and asked myself if, together with the Haute Couture ateliers, we could make garments that tell stories like a book," he said. This collection, titled 'Gaby and the Beanstalk', was born, and thus the Salon d'Honneur inside the Grand Palais came alive with cartoonish, larger-than-life poisonous vines winding up the walls and oversized flowers in full toxic bloom (inspired by Jumanji).

Couture is the ultimate fantasy, and this fairytale collection, that had been made over many hours in the atelier, featured intricate embroidery, fine pleating, goldsmithing, braiding, and ultra-sharp tailoring, alongside Blazy's clever tricks, stitched throughout the clothes. Post-it notes were embroidered onto the inside of jackets with daily reminders, dresses were freckled with 3D flowers, charms were slyly woven throughout, and buttons were transformed into golden Goldilocks bears. Whether it was a heavily embroidered rainbow dress that made a sample-worthy beat of its own with each footstep, or a pristine little black dress that ended the show (Blazy called it his "revenge dress), this was our perfect fairytale. The soundtrack to the story began with the Lord of the Rings theme, before the voice of a Belgian musician monotonously listed her daily routine, for a momentary reality check (after all, the Chanel girl is a busy lady). Sixpence None the Richer's "Kiss Me" perfectly scored the ease and flow of ethereal dresses like Anok Yai's, and Dolly Parton's "The Bargain Store" was Michel Gaubert's choice for finale.

After the show, we went into the Coco Chanel Suite at the Ritz to experience the new scents of Chanel Beauty, and ended the day at Le Trianon, where Vanessa Paradis put on a brilliant show—the ground was shaking, and Blazy was right in the mosh pit, dancing alongside us. As Blazy's Chanel continues to enrapture both the existing and the fiercely passionate new customers around the world, all of us in the world of Chanel are living very happily ever after.
