ALIX HIGGINS: RESORT 2027

Alix Higgins knows what's good. He is a master in music, design, style and good vibes. For Resort 2027, Higgins wanted to make something that felt like the ultimate reflection of where he's at on his journey. "I wanted to stay true to myself in the way that I used to make collections, which wasn't around a particular theme," he told 10 Nagazine Australia backstage before the show. "It's more just like all these things I love. So this collection is really selfish and narcissistic in that way." With a 'teenage pop-punk' inspired soundtrack by Joan Banoit, a headphone collaboration with rising tech giant Nothing (backed by Charli xcx) and a brilliant beauty gleam with thanks to Sean Brady. Tight-to-the-skin neon yellow tops read 'this is my show', hot pink polo shirts were reconstructed to work as skirts, nostalgic logos like 'disneyland' and 'xtreme gaming' flashed up on askew t-shirts and basketball-style shorts, and Higgins' classic floral printed DNA came through on flowing sets. "I wanted to have this challenge of taking from history," he said. "Normally my brand is so future forward and I wanted to see what it would feel like if I go back in time. The upcycling [this time] is like, what if this T-shirt is part of my brand? And what if this polo shirt is part of my brand? I was like, what if this like wood carving from 500 years ago from France is part of my brand? So I went into archives and I pulled all these elements and then digitised them and made them the future."

So, what is Higgins' favourite time period in history, after all this digging? "There's a bit of a '30s spirit of the collection... and also a bit of theturn of the 20th century. The hair by Daniel Jianing is inspired by the Gibson Girl. We wanted this  romantic nod." With a Blink 182-inspired pop punk anthem on blast, Higgins wanted to create the feeling of "driving around in your car and we're in love... let's ditch school and let's escape." Very much our kind of collection. "I feel more confident every year, and this one is really just learning more and more about who I am and what I have to say. I wasn't going into it to try and prove anything or show off a some skill. It was really just: this is what I have to say. And I think that is the way forward for me as a designer. It's just about my friends and my life."
