HERMÈS AT 2021 MILAN DESIGN WEEK

|

Fandom: Hermès homewares. Cue Milan Design Week and the beauty of the Hermès five ‘houses’ exhibited at La Pelota, all lined up like a row of detached homes on a street of orange sand, with a set designed by the brilliant co-artistic director of Hermès Maison Charlotte Macaux Perelman. The seemingly simple geometry of the outer walls an exploration of space and optical gorgeousness inviting us inside to marvel at the monumentally minimal pieces made from natural materials and by the best craftsmen from Puglia (the original home of Papier Mache) to Studio Mumbai, who together created the organic Sillage armchair. Our favourite pieces include the new copper and enamel centre piece plates with their egg yolk and pale pink colours; and the Hippomobile porcelain tea service with its jockey silks joyfully worn by the engraved horses. We like a horse. We love Hermès. Lush, although this word is almost too lush but then Hermès is a conundrum of more and less, imagination and function.
