Gucci gang Gucci gang Gucci gang. Grab your Gucci flip flops and Gucci green suits, it’s a Gucci extravaganza as the brand celebrates 100 years of greatness. What a time. Alessandro Michele spoke about the “power of the Gucci brand - welcome to his 'hacking lab’ made of incursions and metamorphoses. This was good Gucci: slick tailoring, velvet suits, prints on prints, sleeker frames and yes, the rumours were true, a ‘collaboration’ of sorts with Balenciaga. Well, Alessandro has ‘hacked’ Balenciaga. Like a music sample, taking Demna’s greatest hits and prints, he Guccified Balenciaga sock boots and Hourglass bags. A meeting of the logomania masterminds. This was part of the 100 year celebration, as Alessandro said in his letter to us all; “I have plundered the nonconformist rigour of Demna Gvasalia and the sexual tension of Tom Ford… I have sublimated Marilyn Monroe’s silhouette and old Hollywood’s glamour; I sabotaged the discreet charm of the bourgeoisie and the codes of men’s tailoring.” It was Gucci toned down but tuned up, and embracing the House’s influence in music as Lil Pump rapped the infamous Gucci Gang, Rick Ross growled about Green Gucci Suits and Bhad Babie’s Tik Tok phenomenon Gucci Flip Flops was so jarring it was just right. Die Antwoord’s Gucci Coochie was the perfect ending as they flocked into the Gucci garden. Balenucci (or is it Gucciaga?) prints shimmered in a thousand silver sparkles, riding hats on for protection and besties in the form of all the brilliant handbags by their sides. They frolicked amongst the animals and flowers, marking the “ability to renew and get back to life after winter has passed.” It was good fun, the wardrobe we will escape in, what we hope to wear to the first big party when the time comes. As Alessandro says: “Here we are then, ready to celebrate, wearing our most glittering clothes…” Happy b’day, Gucci.
