ERDEM: MENSWEAR AW22

|
Written By:

Erdem’s menswear is in full bloom. The London-based designer seems at ease with his sophomore men’s outing, mixing easy-going corduroy trousers with cracking mohair jumpers and floral hoodies and joggers. Prim and proper activewear, who’d of thought?

Guiding the designer’s hand this season are 20th-century photographers Madame d’Ora and Madame Yevonde – d’Ora a close affiliate of Picasso and Josephine Baker, Yevonde a still-life and portrait photographer based in London. Erdem positioned his focus on the work of both women during the 1930s, imagining a “curiously timeless” gent who could’ve been a subject of both photographers.

Lifting the saturated block colours of d’Ora’s portraits, the designer bleeds muddy yellows into gentle browns and subdued greens, seen across relaxed suiting, pyjama sets and overcoats (particularly excellent in orange boiled wool and a lime green brushed alpaca finish). The 20-look collection serves as a sublime blend of casual and dressing up garb done the proper way. Suited and booted for a hybrid working lifestyle.
