Crazy, right ? Sitting at a catwalk show in the midst of a global pandemic... Well that’s what we did, Covid free here in Sydney, for now, turning out to support Edwina Forest and Adrian Norris’ Aje resort 22 collection on the eve of AfterPay Australian Fashion Week. The shows will go on in early June. The set: Fresh. Bunches of limes and a tree artfully ‘planted’ by Saskia Havekes and the team at Grandiflora. And cool bucket hats on every seat. The collection unfurled within the magnificent Royal Botanic Gardens, prefaced with a short speech by Yvonne Weldon a Wiradjuri woman who reminded us of the importance of acknowledging Indigenous Australia, especially in this garden. She is great a power house of knowledge and thoughtfulness. The casting: spanning age, ethnicity and size, all represented.
The collection: light, bubble sleeves, an army of know-your-client resort dresses, and the best pleated tiered gowns dancing along at the end. Splashy lime and lemon prints, freehand brushes of strawberry and all full of hope, hopefully the spirit of next summer. “It’s simple I wanted it to be the essence of summer, anywhere, a little bit sixties maybe too” Forest told us after the show. In these challenging times it’s something to look forward to.
