“I have tried a new exercise,” said Silvana Armani, the niece of Giorgio Armani, who worked closely with him for decades and was appointed his womenswear successor after his death last year. She may live and breathe the elegant codes of the house but Silvana is not afraid to try something different. For SS27, she kept to the minimalist Armani principles, but added sparkling elements throughout, “almost as if to erase or blend the boundaries between day and evening.” Daywear looks had a sense of occasion as the designer used shimmering fabrics for blazers worn with chinos or Bermuda shorts and traced the pockets of a blouson in black bugle beads. A striped T-shirt dress came with banded sequin stripes and even a hooded tracksuit had the sheen of delicate silk.

As she segued into evening wear the designer further blurred the boundaries between night and day, pairing a vest made from long strands of golden chains with silk track pants or crafting an oversized silk tee to wear with shiny oil slick black party trousers.

Sticking to a strict palette of black, white, beige and metallic, she worked abstract monochrome wave patterns and stripes over suits, and bandeau tops. The designer paid direct homage to her late uncle, with a bomber jacket bearings his portrait and a hoodie embroidered with his signature in sparkling black beads. Adressing the Armani woman directly, she said, “I want to convey to her my preference for a soft, streamlined aesthetic, as well as my practical approach as a woman who thinks about how woman dress.” For Silvana Armani, ease and elegance rule day and night.
