How often do you see a packed theatre? Tonight the Palace in Montmartre Paris was standing room only for the Gucci SS19 moment. Can we call it a fashion show? Hard to call it a “collection.” It was film and theatre, a performance inspired by Leo and Perla, Italian legends. Discordant, thought-provoking. Like Alessandro Michele’s tenure at Gucci as creative director. He is into good stuff – it’s all about experience and cultural moments. Something that digs deeper and connects in our Insta-age. POW check suit. Sun ray pleat acid yellow. Jumper with diamanté fronds. Huge visor shields. Turbans and leopard. A fabulous oversize backpack and feather. So much drama, red hair clashing with that sky blue fringed dress. A young troupe of people, all creative, introspective. An intermission with Jane Birkin. A Birkin intermission is the best kind of intermission, all part of this season’s Gucci jigsaw with pieces flying before an assembly on stage. A choreography of detail. Take a bow Michele.
