Brandon Maxwell, knows how to dress the New York City girl. This woman is getting down to business in cinched-at-the-waist shirts that flowed into pencil skirts, mini skirts and boss trousers. Dresses scooped round the neck, high and hugged the body perfectly. Secure, armour-like. Maxwell is good at that, and that’s exactly what he wanted. He was feeling protective after dealing with an illness in his family. Pockets made for layers on mini shirt dresses and suits were buttoned low. There was that classic Maxwell splash of the richest fruity pink on jumpsuits and that final Cinderella style gown with it’s super thin tie around the waist. The ultimate wardrobe for the woman who works and then rocks up at the ball by night. A silk satin envy green slid down the body on a great halter neck dress. Yes yes it was all good. Brandon Maxwell has found his groove in NYC. He is also an International Woolmark Prize finalist for 2019, the winner will be announced on Feb 16 in London. We wait, we watch.
