‘Tis time to celebrate. Sener Besim, creator of brilliant eyewear and fine jewellery, and all round creative genius, has opened his first standalone store at 80 Collins Street, Melbourne. A clever space designed by Don McQualter of Studio McQualter, the flagship boutique is as Sener says, designed to express a “minimalism infused with mindfulness & essence”. Sounds good, feels good. The boutique showcases the brand’s iconic optical and sunglass frames as well as all that signature dripping-in-gold geometric jewellery. Sener continues to tell his brand’s story through the store’s setup, a glass and concrete wonderland with an exclusive, custom-designed, articulated display unit conceived by the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) under the direction of Rem Koolhaas and David Gianotten, which stands at the entry of the store. Customers glide on a gridded stone floor, surrounded by poured cement walls and a ceiling of high-gloss white enamel. Slick. Flashes of cobalt blue electrify and sunglasses are showcased in futuristic, fabulous metal portals. We do love a trip to Collins Street.
