As Justin Timberlake, so eloquently once put it: “I be on my suit and tie s**t.” Yes, Sarah Burton’s Alexander McQueen man is on his suit and tie s**t. Menswear AW19 is a collection of expert sharp tailoring, a feeling of freedom and suits in all of the wonderful ways of the McQueen world; the softest pink silk satin with printed fierce flowers, Prince of Wales check and pinstripe, patterned with roses. The collection is a continuation from the womenswear collection, on which we wrote: “Burton went back to where she came from, the industrial heartlands of northern England.” Get to it. An ode to British cloth and craft, here for the boys. Suit jackets drip in jewels and chains and sweater vests are emblazoned with an embroidered rose across the heart. Leather trenches and knee-length skirts rough it up, as well as those oversized toughened-up sweaters. It’s a collection to wear up North, down South, to the coast and around the world. The McQueen man is oh so international.
