Kanye West has announced his first ever opera, to be held at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles this coming Sunday. The opera is titled Nebuchadnezzar, after the Babylonian king who West has quite the fascination with. Last month West compared himself to Nebuchadnezzar, saying to Beats 1’s Zane Lowe: “[God] is saying, Let me take this Nebuchadnezzar-type character—Nebuchadnezzar was the king of Babylon, and he looked at his entire kingdom and said, I did this. I stood on the top of the mountain talking about Yeezus, saying, ‘I’m a God’—I had a guy dressed as Jesus,” Ye said in relation to his Yeezus tour. The opera is directed by his long-time collaborator Vanessa Beecroft, with the opera artwork (above) designed by Nick Knight. Tickets went on sale overnight and have, as expected, already sold out. There’s nothing he can’t – and won’t – do.
