THE MET GALA THEME HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED

Friday 8th November 2019

Next year is 2020, the turn of a decade and the 150th year anniversary of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. So it makes sense that the theme for the Met Gala has been decided by Andrew Bolton as “About Time: Fashion and Duration.” The theme was inspired by Orlando, the 1992 Sally Potter film, based on the Virginia Woolf novel of the same time. Woolf’s quotes from her time-centered books including Mrs. Dalloway and To The Lighthouse will appear throughout the exhibition, as well as a short story by Michael Cunningham, author of The Hours. Max Hollein, director of the Met, said of the concept: “This exhibition will consider the ephemeral nature of fashion, employing flashbacks and fast-forwards to reveal how it can be both linear and cyclical.” The cochairs for the Met Gala on Monday May 4th will be Nicolas Ghesquière, Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Anna Wintour.
