One to watch. The coolest new chick on the block, 15-year old Los Angeles native Billie Eilish graced us with her presence last night at newly reopened Lansdowne Hotel. Her voice is piercingly beautiful and a little rough around the edges at times, much like her. After releasing her EP, “don’t smile at me” this year, Eilish has developed a cult following with her poppy alternative style that some might compare to Banks or Lana Del Rey. Writing all her music with her brother, Finneas, who helps produce, the duo are travelling the world, full speed ahead. Simply herself, effortlessly proving her wide vocal range, she threw herself around the stage to hypnotic beats. The Lansdowne served as the perfect venue for Billie. Intimate and alive. “We re-opened the Lansdowne to help create a home for artists, musicians, rat bags and freaks. A place to be nurtured and a place that they can be free to challenge and create and push and excite both their audience and our wider culture,” says Jake Smyth, owner of the Lansdowne. “Billie is exactly what the Lansdowne is here for – a vibrant and original voice, creating art and bringing a community together.” And she looked great. She always does. Eilish is working it, always in a nineties inspired skater kid look. Puffer jackets, sweatpants and platform sneakers. We love. A great contrast to her enchanting, haunting, delicate vocals. This is only the beginning.
