BILL HENSON’S NEW MASTERPIECE: PARTICLE MIST

Monday 9th November 2015

We love Bill Henson’s work and so we are celebrating this morning at Ten Towers and wallowing in the darkness of his new book, Particle Mist. It features work ‘Untitled 1974’ and ‘Untitled 1975’ with other previously unseen photographs from work begun in 1976, and unfinished. We can relate to unfinished. The words chiaroscuro obscura come to mind for some reason, and we are moved by the sweet intensity and form of the ballerinas who feature in the three acts of the book. We are told that the cover is a “commissioned arrangement of three songs from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, adapted into a musical maze which is based on a 14th Century scribe’s version of the French ballade En la maison Dedalus. Each of the three arrangements corresponds to one of the ‘acts’ within the book.” And so we are playing Tchaikovksy at full volume right now and wishing feeling like we were almost there way back in 1975. by av
