We love a good glow and for that we swear by Chanel's Hydra Beauty range. Now, Chanel are introducing a new star in the lineup: Hydra Beauty Camellia Glow Concentrate, a gentle exfoliating hydration with AHAs ready to reset our routine. We went to Melanie Grant, Chanel Skin Expert, to experience the new serum as part of the ultimate Hydra Beauty facial. Glow, supercharged. We spoke to Melanie to get the lowdown on the new concentrate:

We’re so excited about the Hydra Beauty Camellia Glow Concentrate. What do you love most about this new serum?

With the right products, a streamlined skincare routine is often the most effective, so I like to select products that will work hard on my behalf. The Camellia Glow Concentrate does just that, it is concentrated which means only a small amount is required minus additional steps. A true multi-tasker the formula refines, brightens, exfoliates and hydrates in one simple step.”

How is it revolutionary?

“Our skin is confronted daily with aggressors from the environment, pollution and debris accumulated throughout the day. This results in a buildup of dead skin cells that lead to a rough skin surface where pores and other textual inconsistencies may appear more visible, causing a coarse, lacklustre complexion. Because of this, it's vital to incorporate exfoliation into our regimes to slough away that build up, to keep the skin's surface fresh and even. For those with a sensitive skin type, over-exfoliating can be more detrimental than effective so it’s important to balance exfoliation. The Camellia Glow Concentrate’s inclusion of the White Camellia extract rehydrates, to boost the skin's natural production of hyaluronic acid. So, whilst it exfoliates, it won't strip or cause sensitivity to the skin. It's nourishing and restorative which is what makes it gentle enough for daily use and for all skin types, even for those of us with sensitive skin.”

You’ve been working with this serum in your expert facials - have you noticed a difference in your clients’ skin since incorporating this?

“When applying Hydra Beauty Camellia Glow Concentrate in the treatment room, I notice an immediate boost in plumpness to my client's skin. This is achieved by the polyfractioned White Camellia Active within the formula which leads to an instant hydration to a devitalised complexion. If a client is experiencing ongoing issues with texture and tone, I suggest they use the concentrate each night for the duration of a month. During this time, the Camellia Yeast will boost the skin’s natural production of hyaluronic acid to rehydrate the skin whilst it exfoliates. With the regular, gentle exfoliation, the skin is resurfaced unveiling healthier skin cells. This prevention of build up will ensure you get the most out of your products, allowing for your other serums and creams to effectively penetrate the skin.”

The new concentrate includes AHAs. There is so much talk about AHAs and BHAs online - can you give us a quick AHA lowdown - why do we need to incorporate them etc?

“AHAs are a chemical exfoliant that dissolve the bonds between skin cells, which in turn thoroughly slough away any dead skin cells. By removing the compromised layer, you unveil smoother and healthier skin, making AHAs vital to the overall skin's health and for a radiant, glowing appearance. AHAs are universal and suitable for all skin types, particularly when accompanied with ingredients that balance out any abrasion caused by the exfoliation process. It is still important to introduce them slowly as you would with any active. AHAs increase photosensitivity, so be sure to wear sunscreen daily and avoid extended exposure to the sun.”

We experienced your Hydra Beauty facial and our skin had never looked better. How do we maintain that glow at home?

“Maintaining the results from a facial may seem like a tedious task, but with the right products it is most definitely achievable. To stay on top of your glow achieved in the treatment room, I suggest to clients to give themselves a weekly “at home facial” which includes a few additional steps to your regular routine. This is not only a great way to maintain your skin’s health but also provides some additional time-out to focus on yourself.

Begin with a double cleanse to remove any makeup and grime. I like to use a micellar water to remove makeup followed by a cream cleanser for a thorough clean. Next a physical exfoliant like the Le Gommage which is an anti-pollution formula that will ensure any build up on the skin’s surface is removed.

Giving yourself a facial massage at the end of each day is always a great way to destress but also increase blood flow to the complexion. Ensure you have enough slip by using a nutrient face oil, like the Huile de Jasmin. Using your hands in upwards and outwards motion, focus on all areas of the face particularly those that hold tension.

Next, apply a cream mask like the Hydra Beauty Camelia Repair Mask to further enrich the skin with the nutrients it needs to repair itself. Apply this all over your face and decolletage, keeping it on for 10-20 minutes and remove with a warm washcloth.

As we age, our cell turnover slows down so it’s important to include regular, gentle exfoliation daily which is where the Camellia Glow Concentrate comes in. Apply a pea sized amount of the product pressing it into the face , neck and decolletage. Follow this step with your favourite serum, creme and eye cream. Your skin will feel refreshed, plumped and brighter.”

What is your ultimate skincare tip?

“Wear a good quality, broad spectrum sunscreen each and every day, no matter the weather. Even if it's the only thing you do.”
