Jonathan Anderson picks ’em well. The next collaboration for JW Anderson is with British artists Gilbert & George. Here’s why: “For me, Gilbert & George are the ultimate British Modernists and I am obsessed with their work,” Jonathan said. “I really appreciate both the sense of anarchy and order in what Gilbert & George do and in this way it works perfectly with JW Anderson – it’s a marriage of British eccentricities and traditions.” The collection has focused on three of Gilbert & George’s works, Guard Plants (1980), Dog Boy (1980) and Heavy (1988). The works flow onto parts of JW’s SS19 collection, a new life. Shirts fall loose and long, stamped with G&G’s ’80s works, a leather jacket is softcore chic and Breton stripes act as the canvas for the paintings on t-shirts. Oversized canvas bags (literally) are the new JDubs wave. We like it. The exclusive collection for both women and men launches today on MatchesFashion and will be on display at 5 Carlos Place.
