It was Versace’s first foray (ever) in New York City, and Gianni Versace’s birthday. Donatella is good at giving us what we want by now and so it was a collection filled with the electricity of a night in NY, with homages to her brother, and more classic Versace dresses reinvented. “I wanted to pay homage to this incredible city, bringing the sartorial heritage of Milan and fusing it with the energy of New York and its eclectic nature. This collection is the result of this,” she said. And so it was into the New York Stock Exchange, where a huge gold Versace style Statue of Liberty arm was the centrepiece, blindingly brilliant with the illusion of being on fire. Heating up. Love heart patterns were technicolored, a print inspired by Jim Dine’s designs for Gianni Versace’s New York townhouse. ‘Love Versace’ was in the air. The moment we’ve been subconsciously waiting for – and – the safety pin dress is back. This time, the pins were a little more lowkey but still shining bright in Donatella’s good gold. It was like being deep in the secret Versace lair in the night a place where Versace comes alive, those prints lighting up and reflecting like a disco ball. Yes, we’d like to party in Pre-Fall.
