Tom Ford is so excited, he just can’t hide it. There was something infectious about the energy in his AW18 collection. We found ourselves toe tapping, dancin’, shoulder shimmying as we indulged in a Tom Ford extravaganza full of top notch excess. These were women who knew how to werk it. Excess rhymes with success. Pussy power (his words). Thick headbands kept messy buns practically pulled back, tights became the ‘pants’ under double breasted blazers where all that Tom Ford tailoring was in it’s prime and big lapel’s in silk and velvet paved the way for dazzling rectangular belt fastenings. Chic. Oversized chunky hoops swung into action, embellished kitten heels made life easy and little velvet bows tied long sleeve, backless turtlenecks. This is the aerobic life. Jane Fonda. There was a whole prowl of animal print, following on from his menswear show on Tuesday night, it was seamed into a mash up of prints on great jackets, on to tights and tiered frilly mini halter neck dresses. She does as she pleases, struttin’ her stuff. There’s no stopping Tom Ford. The music pumped, an 80s mix of The Pointer Sisters’ R&B Dance pop and edged into the golden era of hip hop with LL Cool J’s ‘Going Back to Cali.’ But really, the best bit was Mr Ford coming out in a pair of shades to Dr Dre’s The Next Episode lyrics blaring “With my jeans on, and my team strong, get my drink on and my smoke on.” Owning it. A whole lot of swag.
