A glittering mesh skirt, and sheer soft chiffon blouse over a slip. Crystals. A sense of layered lingerie. Pasticceria Marchesi colours. Sensual. Beautiful. Elegant yet all dusted with a sense of sport. Kind of like a 2018 cat on a hot roof (forget the tin) as this rooftop/cuppola that we were looking at – and where the show took place – was the architectural masterpiece, the Galleria Vittoria Emanuele in Milan. Hot dayyyyum. Intimate. Special. Imagine the ultimate glamorous attic, six floors up above the original Prada store, the industrial clout, all that epic engineering, the might and glory juxtaposed with a tender set of transparent dresses, pieces played out with that sportiness from the sneakers. “I wanted a modernism” Miuccia Prada told us after the show, to reflect the modernism that the building achieved in its time. Breathless. Fabulous socks. Flat layers of chiffon. Decadence. Party. A perfect sprinkle of Miuccia magic. Nowness alright. “It had to resonate with the Galleria, so yes some decadence” she agreed. Called “Suspended Ensemble” the collection was floating, we were too, high up in Milano, high on sugar (Marchesi) dreams ideas and subtle, terrifying achievement.
