MARC JACOBS REISSUES 1993 PERRY ELLIS COLLECTION

Thursday 8th November 2018

Guess what’s back, back again. When a collection is so good that it simultaneously makes your career but also gets you fired, you recreate it 25 years later. Duh. Marc Jacobs’ Spring 1993 grunge collection for Perry Ellis was notoriously legendary. The then-29-year-old Marc dressed Christy Turlington in a top-stitched denim jacket and striped beanie, Kate Moss in a long loose slip dress paired so perfectly with stomp-the-yard Dr. Martens boots. There were chokers, there were flannel shirts and there were grunge gone granny dresses. Criticised at the time, iconic in retrospect. “The ‘grunge’ collection epitomised the first time in my professional career I was unwavering in my determination to see my vision come to life on the runway, without creative compromise,” Jacobs said in a statement. And so it’s returned, 26 looks from the ’93 collection have been impeccably replicated for the new capsule collection called ‘Redux’. Love a revival. Shot by Juergen Teller the lookbook is the first look at the collection which will be available online from November 15th before dropping in stores and at a pop-up on Madison Avenue on November 19th. But for those who are impatient and ready to relive their prime (or pre-birth for some of us) the collection is available for pre-order today.
