INFRA REALISM BY KATE BALLIS

Monday 22nd October 2018

X-Ray vision into a California-sunset-drenched new parallel universe has been found. Australian artist Kate Ballis has been photographing Palm Springs, her second home, for years. She’s now seeing it in a new light, quite literally, through an infrared camera to create a saturated surreal new Springs (and Sedona, Atacama Desert and Joshua Tree) in her new book Infra Realism. Infra-radical. Ballis powered through California, discovering detailed elements of the atmosphere, the healthiness of plants, that are usually less visible. Making the unseen, seen. The heat of California is sizzling in this level of the universe, flames so hot that they’re turning a fiery pink. A Lana Del Rey ‘Honeymoon’ album vibe. The best type of vibe. Our kind of Cali. Our kind of artist.

Infra Realism is available November 2018.
