Chill dawns. We will go on the road and see only what we want to see. The suffering, the suburbs, the nanny pushing a pram, the view through her lens, inconsequential, inconsiderate, don’t pull her hair! The dog that jumps the fence; the boys that whisper together we love it, love it; boys, boys, boys; the cold campsite; the moon shiners; the storm chasers and the family huddling in a Winnebago as lightening strikes all around. We will chase dreams from San Francisco to Philadelphia. And squander time and lie in motel beds. And see so much and realize that everything isn’t everything. There is no heaven or hell, perhaps there is nothing, no reincarnation in this nation as we take the corner too sharply and see the stop sign ahead. Slow motion, stop motion, the realization of a life flashing by. All that unprocessed Super 8 and the wonderland of emptiness all around flashing by, Salt Lake City and all those sinners; Detroit; the Interstate, up state, down state, seeing it all in every state; New Orleans; Alabama; my Louisiana; Texasbama; hot sauce; Memphis, Tennessee; we went to Graceland. Chewing gum. The radio playing “My Heart Will Go On”. Glazed cherry donuts. Walmart any mart, drive a tractor down these aisles and do the shopping. You see that long road ahead; no it will never end, not ever. 24/7. The flags are flying high and we’re tearing up so bad, so sweet and so sour in my Celine.
