To spice things up at Saint Laurent Anthony Vaccarello is launching a new art project titled ‘Self’ in an effort to allow artists to comment on society whilst celebrating the values of Saint Laurent. There is much to celebrate: those values include focus on freedom of self-expression without censorship. Yes the Saint Laurent men and women always do feel very free, rebellious, sure of themselves. Each chosen photographer, filmmaker and artist has been briefed to make a confrontational statement that draws on diversity, individuality and pure honesty. Gotta be good. First up is Japanese photographer Daido Moriyama who’s work will be presented in Paris at Palais Royal from November 9-11 as part of Paris Photo. Curated by Vaccarello, the exhibition will be presented in a light installation in the Galerie d’Orléans courtyard. ‘Self’ in the era of ultimate self-obsession, but Saint Laurent ain’t superficial. It’s in the air.
