Dear Tenners, what can we tell you about Ray-Ban that you already don’t know? Well, it was originally known by pilots as ‘Anti-Glare’ because it was, well, anti glare. Never ones for mundanity in 1937 the company renamed the sunglasses after the idea of “banning” the suns “rays” from our fragile little eyes. So Ray-Ban was born and with that the Aviator we all know so well. Since then, we’ve watched Andy Warhol, Michael Jackson, Muhammad Ali, the Blue Brothers…. not much point listing all the faces these sunglasses have adorned, google it though – it’s impressive. Anyway, we digress. The fact is, Ray-Ban has opened their largest store in the South Pacific for sunglasses and optical at Chadstone, Melbourne. 100 square metres of Ray-Ban goodness modelled after iconic Ray-Ban stores in Milan, Tokyo and New York, it has over 107 styles not available at any other retailer in Australia – this we found truly impressive – an optometry and eye-testing service with a full-time optometrist trained in the latest eye-care tech and Ray-Ban REMIX, which is essentially a digital touch screen that allows us to personalise our own Ray-Ban styles and have them shipped to our home. This is a highlight for us. We love to play. And now that we mention it, play we did. Last week we visited the store for a sneak peek, after hours of course. DJ and producer Golden Features performed whilst we drank Four Pillars Negronis and tried on literally every style in the store. Yes there are hundreds. Yes we stayed a while. Okay, we were the last to leave. Suckers for a bit of iconic eyewear and by golly is this place full of it.
