Do not hesitate to go along to this mighty exhibition that elevates the humble bag to something power packed and extraordinary. The colorful bilum bags are hand-woven by women in the highlands of Papua New Guinea and have been brought to our consciousness by Caroline Sherman (clever clever clever) who started Among Equals as a socially aware way of selling the hilum bags while empowering the women. Each bag is stacked with such soul and stories are quite literally woven into the design, and each one imbued with something highly personal. All the profits from each bag goes directly to the community, enabling better healthcare, education, self esteem and purpose for the women, and their children. Watch the film. Full of hope. Then go along to Koskela and buy one – or two… I couldn’t help myself they are so brilliant. True artisan meets art, meets power to the people.
The exhibition runs for one month at Koskela.
